Kirk is a Loser

I call Kirk Mr. Health now! He is walking 5 miles a day and does the elliptical at least 3 times a week for 20 minutes. I am still at 5 minutes on the elliptical because of my knees (I sound like my mom).
We are eating healthy by adding more fruits and veggies to our diet. Kirk is also watching portion sizes. He only drinks Diet Pepsi on the weekends.
The picture on the left was taken the end of January when we were in Florida. The picture on the right was just this morning. Kirk saw the Florida picture and said he looked pregnant. Then when he put that same shirt on this morning he could feel the difference. I just had to take a picture.
He is feeling and looking gooood!

The World According to Matthew

I call these Matthewisms and I just had to share because they make me laugh.

Adele: I just threatened to to have Grandma Dee Dee (great grandma) take Matthew to school
Matthew's response: How? She's SO OLD! 4.23.09

Matthew to Adele: I can't WAIT to be 9 years old. I'm going to be in the adult school in church. Isn't that SO COOL Auntie? 3.27.09

Matthew to Adele: Puppito (Matthew's dog) is a girl because my mom calls her princess and she really is Auntie. She acts like a spoiled princess! 3.31.09

Matthew to Michelle as they are getting into the car to go to preschool: Sorry for the bad word momma but the bag is in the way and I can't close my fricken belt! 2.12.09

Count Your Blessings

As the song goes:
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!

(Johnson Oatman, Jr. pub. 1897)

1. Family(yes, ALL of you)
2.The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
3. Kirk
4. My job
5. All of my friends (you know who you are)
6. Our home
7. Facebook- I can talk to my friends and family daily (not just Mafia Wars)
8. Blogs- I can keep up with all of my long distant friends. Even the close ones.
9. Vacations (when is the next one?)
10. Weekends with the grandchildren
11. Omaha Zoo

As I get up each morning and get ready for the day I say, "Thank you." These are just a few of the things that I am always giving thanks for. With everything going on in the world today we need to focus on all of our blessing.

A Day at the Zoo

I spent the last week hanging out with the grandchildren, Matthew and Logan, in Emporia, Kansas. One night we had a picnic dinner at Peter Pan Park where they got so tired and dirty. We were having so much fun during the week that Michelle, Matthew and Logan came up to Omaha with me to see Papa. Saturday we had a great time at the Zoo. They had not seen the Butterfly Pavilion so that is the first place we went. Then we had to go to the aquarium because Matthew likes it but this time it was Logan that would not leave. He loved the penguins and all of the fish. We also went to the Young Woman Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser where Matthew made a new "best" friend, Cooper. The Young Woman did a great job and even had activities for the kids.
Now it is back to work!

Murder at the Four Deuces

I am still trying to catch up on my blogging so here is our excitement for February. We went to the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of the Flint Hills murder mystery. Adele and Cortney worked hard on this huge event. Their hard work paid off because it was a really fun event. Michelle was one of the characters; who knew the girl could act. They had a lovely dinner that was inspired by food you would get served in the 20's. We partook of the different courses as the mystery unravelled. Then as a table we had to guess who the killer was. Kirk and I teamed up with Courtney's family to question the cast of characters, trying to guess who the culprit was. I believe there was about 250 people but nobody got it right. Just shows what great actors they were.

Cast of Characters: Adele has been working at BBBS and Cortney is the director. Michelle just loves to help (and obviously act).

Slide show of Florida Vacation

Florida Vacation in January

I know it has taken awhile for me to post something on our vacation but there are a couple of reasons. One is, I don't want it to sound like a travel log....boring. Second is, I am in denial that it is over. We always have a great time with Jim and Lori King. As you can see by the pictures we keep busy. It was relaxing having the timeshare that overlooked the Ocean. We slept every night with our door open so we could fall asleep listening to the surf.

Besides relaxing, we took in some of the local sites at Daytona Beach. We toured the race track even though none of us are big fans but it was interesting learning the history. Thanks Lori for hanging in there! We had a lot of fun at Gaterland hanging out with all of the alligators. We spent most of the day there watching the corny shows and learning way to much about gaters. Kirk really liked the huge alligator that was captured because it was eating dogs. Lori and I spent a nice morning looking at the blobs under the water, aka manatees. There was a lot of manatees because it was cold and they were flocking to the warmer water. It started raining so we didn't spend that much time there.

Well I guess it is starting to sound like a travel log so I need to stop. I think the pictures I attached are worth a million words. I wish we could go there all of the time and take everyone with us.
Kirk made the great slide show above so you can see a few of our pictures.

Inauguration Day

I am so proud to be an American today. The sense of history resonates as I watch the inauguration with people across the nation. I got chocked up when I saw on TV the huge crowds who gathered along the Washington Mall waving American flags. I shared the moment with friends on facebook. I am excited to know that my mother and sister-in-law, Peggy, are among the crowd in Washington. I tried to call them before the ceremony but the lines were all busy. I talked to them after the "We are One" celebration at the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday and they said it was great.
Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream has come true but we have a lot of work to do. President Obama's speech inspired me, knowing that we must continue to build on what our forefathers have built. Like he said in his speech, "We have chosen hope over fear." Here is to continuing to build on the freedoms that our forefathers have worked so hard, or died, to give us. We must continue to build on this foundation.

Mom and Carrie, the purple people have triumphed.

Mommy and Me TIme

It has been nice having Adele visiting for the last few days. We have had fun shopping, eatting and playing cards. She plays a mean Canasta! We also went to the outlet stores and I found a dress for $1.80, which makes it look even cutier. Then we had to go get Sushi because Adele has not been to Baby Blue yet and we had her help us with our search for the ultimate sushi. They have some interesting combos, with the Crunchy Blue being the bomb.
Since it has been cold (like -9 degrees before wind chill) we rented a couple of movies. Have I said how much I like Family Video? Videos are only $1 each and new releases are $2. Even though one of the videos was a bomb, it was ok because it was only $1.
Adele is armed with her new GPS from Costco so she is out of here. Until next time!

Countdown to Vacation

This is why I am counting down to vacation! I can not wait to go to Florida in 14 days. It is a warm 30 degrees today but this week the highs will be 12 degrees, so that mean at night it will be in the negative numbers. We really didn't get that much snow last night, about an inch, but I wanted to show Kirk shoveling. He does have a snow blower but there is not enough snow to use it. I am sure I will have an opportunity in the next few months to show Kirk snow blowing. Mr. Macho Man doesn't even have a jacket on. I had my jacket and new scarf on (thanks Cyndie) to take this picture before I ran back into the house. Some day I will get warm enough clothes. We did have fun this morning driving/sliding around town. It is fun fishtailing.

Cody and Jennifer's Wedding

August 23, 2008

Here is a collage of pictures from Jennifer and Cody's wedding where Adele and Michelle were beautiful bride maids. It was a great family event with Jerry and the boys coming out from California. We had so much fun with Cassidy, Matthew's new best friend. He really wanted to dance with her all night but she shared her dance card with her parents and aunts. The bride was beautiful and the food was good. It was a great Douglas event.

Our Babies: Logan and Matthew

Happy New Years

It was another quite New Years. We stayed in and watched videos, then watched bowl games all day on New Years Day.
My New Years Resolution is to get healthy and be active.
Kirk, what is your resolution?
My Resolution is to eat less and exorcise...KD
I have spent the beginning of the New Year setting up our blog to keep in touch with all of our friends and family. I have added the weather for all of our friends and family that are out of state, since I am always complaining about being cold. I have also added a counter that counts down to our Anniversary Cruise. We can not wait to join everyone on the Southern Caribbean Cruise! Kirk snubbing is my favorite picture from our last cruise. Let us know if you want to join us and Kirk will send you the information.
We love and miss all of you!!!!
