Inauguration Day

I am so proud to be an American today. The sense of history resonates as I watch the inauguration with people across the nation. I got chocked up when I saw on TV the huge crowds who gathered along the Washington Mall waving American flags. I shared the moment with friends on facebook. I am excited to know that my mother and sister-in-law, Peggy, are among the crowd in Washington. I tried to call them before the ceremony but the lines were all busy. I talked to them after the "We are One" celebration at the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday and they said it was great.
Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream has come true but we have a lot of work to do. President Obama's speech inspired me, knowing that we must continue to build on what our forefathers have built. Like he said in his speech, "We have chosen hope over fear." Here is to continuing to build on the freedoms that our forefathers have worked so hard, or died, to give us. We must continue to build on this foundation.

Mom and Carrie, the purple people have triumphed.

  1. I didn't vote for Obama, but I will support our new President! I hope he can turn things around for us. I loved all his speeches he gave over the last week and all the ceremonies. It did bring a lot of hope. It was touching to see how many people were there to witness history. Today was most definately a historic day and I am so proud to be an american and be a part of it.

  2. Nice post. Lots of history. Despite what Kirk may have said, I don't hing you are too big a "Lefty". Incidentally Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, Bush 43 and Obama are all Lefties (in the sense that the are left-handed.
